The Festival au Désert, one of the most important musical events in West Africa, has turned into a travelling festival, “a cultural caravan for peace”, because of the tensions destabilising the region. For their first visit to France, sponsored by the Festival de Marseille and Africa Fête, the Caravane is making Marseille one of the first stops on its European tour. The programme for this exceptional concert includes the famed Touareg rock group Terakaft accompanied by British musician Justin Adams, and the Ali Farka Touré Band, which keeps alive the repertoire of the Malian guitar hero who died in 2006, the pioneering creator of a combination of blues and Fulani, Songhaï and Bozo music. Afel Bocoum, Ali’s nephew, will be bringing his personal touch to the proceedings. Support group: Marseillais MaClick.
Programme presented in co-presentation with Festival Africa Fête.
